As heirs to the Kingdom, God’s word indicates that we are special, beautiful, and important; indeed He created us in His very image.
However, when you live and work in a trash dump, and can never get away from the dirt, the mud, the trash, and the rancid smell, it is hard to feel beautiful; it is hard to believe that you are special.
Un Dia de Belleza is just that – a day of beauty. A day for the women who live and work in the garbage dumps of Nicaragua to get out of the trash heap and to be told and shown that they are beautiful – that they are cherished by God, and that they have infinite worth in His sight.
Volunteers from Los Rayos de Esperanza regularly plan Los Dias de Bellezas to pamper these women. We give manicures and pedicures, wash, cut, and style their hair, give facials, and give makeovers. We feed them lunch and take care of their children. Sometimes we even do a before and after photo shoot! All the while telling these women how beautiful they are and how much their God adores them.
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs - heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.”
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.”
2 Corinthians 3:18
God designed us to be beautiful reflections of Himself and from our reflection He would receive the Glory. It is pure joy to have the privilege of loving these beautiful women and watch them give God the glory.
